the other birth story

we all know the story in luke that linus recites about the birth of Jesus Christ. but do we know the spiritual story?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    John 1:1

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
    John 1:14

people ask how we know He was fully God and fully man? well here ya go!

however, what i want to touch on is the fact that this somehow gets missed alot of the time. people focus so much on the physical birth that they seem to forget that Jesus is older than that. He was with the Father from before time began.

He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
    John 1:2-4

it is also Jesus that gives us life. it is his light that gives us that light for which we may live fully by. He came to be a light unto the darkness. through that light we can and will be born again and to quote: children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:13). it is here that we understand the far reaching ramifications of that little babies birth. although that wasn’t the start of His existence, it was the start of His human interaction, and eventually His march towards the redemption of the world through His death.

the things that we take away

it’s interesting that there is one prayer, when said from the heart, that always gets answered.

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
    Luke 17:11-13

have pity on the sinner. pity has an interesting connotation in todays vernacular. however, it’s still a major part of what we need when we come to Christ. so what is it that we need with pity? what really comes out of it?

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
    James 1:17

when we come to Christ unabashed and being with Him, we get every good and perfect thing we need. there’s nothing we need to really worry about but walking with God, and as we do, everything else will fall into place.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
    Matthew 6:34

what we leave behind

there are things i do that i wish i didn’t. there are things i don’t do that i wish i did. when crossroads come into life, there a couple of things one can do: reflect and build on everything with earthly ‘wisdom’ and attempts, or, as basically as it sounds, go to God.
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
    Phil. 3:7-8
what is really more important than a relationship with God? the bummer is, sin gets in the way and we get distracted. disconnected from the river of life. however, once you get back on the road its time to give it all back to God, and consider the good with the bad as Gods. it’s easy to give the bad stuff to God and “let” Him take care of it. what about the good though? is it ever easy to give up that which makes you happy? it might not be, but if you’re willing to give it up to God, well, then you’ll get something that makes you even happier. it might take time, but the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus far outweighs anything that can be gained on earth.
there’s another side to this all as well. what to do and how to feel before you come to those crossroads. my experience has led to crossroads coming after a great trial. then again, they tend to lead to more too.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds
    James 1:2
so, i just keep that verse in mind and everything seems quite a bit better.
